A Thousand Words will Never Tell the Whole Story

Inspired by my daughter's entry into kindergarten and the "six-year transition," I explore the spaces between the searching and finding, confusion and knowing, letting go and holding on that parenthood demands. These works illustrate that while my daughter and I remain deeply connected, we are separating and changing as we grow into new versions of ourselves.

Since becoming a mother six years ago, Couture has made work addressing her desire to understand her relationship with motherhood. She realized she needed to completely change her art practice if she wanted to keep an art practice. Couture now has a varied art practice encompassing a range of media and often in 20-minute increments.
