Untitled Lace Project I

My work explores trans embodiment and the intersection of craft and medicine. I am interested in imagery which leads the viewer to the space between attraction and repulsion as a way of exploring and challenging the dichotomy of injury and healing. I use textile materials and practices, while working within the categories of sculpture and installation. A recent body of work – Untitled Lace Project, operates within a language formed by associations with the materials I use. In this series, I pull apart bandages strand by strand for use in creating complex bobbin lace patterns. I draw on my associations with ace bandages as a means of binding the chest. Gauze bandages are used for their association with surgical wound care. These materials, associated with gender affirming care, are appropriated as a reclamation of trans agency.
