I approach art-making as a form of therapy, often imbued with play or humor, as a way of memorializing moments and reflecting on the relationships in my life. Since becoming a parent, I’ve started combining my soft sculptures with ceramics to mimic the tenderness and the necessary extended layers of support amidst the challenges of raising a child with special needs. My familiarity with working with soft sculpture, paired with the unpredictability, hardness, and fragility of ceramics, gives me a way to play with different textures, techniques, and metaphors for my lived experience, incorporating structural and sensory supports into my role as a caregiver.
