Ariel Mannie (she/her) is a textile artist born in Chicago and raised in Harvey, Illinois. Working primarily through quilting, her practice explores cultural memory, ancestral knowledge, and the evolving relationship between African American and African cultural traditions. Drawing from quilting traditions, dimensional soft sculpture, and digital fabrication, Mannie creates works that examine how textiles function as vessels for history, storytelling, and collective memory. Through geometric abstraction, layered construction, and material experimentation, her work investigates how inherited cultural practices endure, transform, and connect communities across time and place. Inspired by African and African American cultural traditions, her practice reflects on themes of identity, spirituality, resistance, and belonging, creating contemporary works that honor the past while imagining new futures.
