My paintings are alive. They absorb, bend, stretch, sag, flicker, and grow. They’re an accumulation of experiences—of my observations, hopes, and memories. I visit sites multiple times to experience the landscape, atmosphere, and weather of a place at different times of day and during different seasons. The material compost of my studio (repurposed clothing, paint rags, drop cloths, and scraps of fabric) is stitched together and layered with paint, fabric dye, spray paint, and embroidery thread. The variety of materials and marks I use allude to different speeds of time and rhythms of nature: seasonal changes, old growth, shifting light, and fleeting weather conditions. My appreciation for life results in densely layered and richly textured paintings that celebrate the wonder and complexity of the natural world.
