My practice is guided by a philosophy of resourcefulness and a deep appreciation for the physicality of handiwork. My pieces are made from materials of different weights, textures, and patterns, such as secondhand fabrics, upholstery samples, old clothing, and leftover scraps. I like to use up what is at hand: bits of the same fabric can appear across several pieces, like a traveling thread connecting the works. I reinterpret traditional quilting techniques through unconventional forms. Compositions emerge from simple shapes that I rotate, flip, and repeat in a sequence that feels like playing a game or solving a puzzle. I quilt and bind the individual units, then handstitch them together into a singular, sculptural form. When hung away from the wall, the pieces cast shadows that further enhance their depth. The work has the familiarity of a quilt, while also existing as something transformed, playing upon standard modes of perception and expectation.
