Painted paper collage
12" x 9" x .02"
by Devin Howell Curry
I make painted paper collages inspired by the interiors of historic house museums, spaces that exist somewhere between lived experience and stage set. Working intuitively, I rearrange architecture, furniture, and color until each room becomes less a record of a specific place than a construction of memory itself. Like memory, the images are assembled rather than retrieved. Through intuitive color, simplified forms, and shifting spatial relationships, I transform documented spaces into imagined ones, where observation gives way to speculation and memory becomes inseparable from invention.
