Artist Statement:

Caleb Poer is an American artist based in Bloomington, Indiana. His work has been featured in public art displays at prominent venues such as the IFell Building, John Waldron Arts Center, and BUTTER 3. In 2022, Caleb was honored with the Emerging Artist Grant, and in 2017, he received the Outstanding Black Male Leader of Tomorrow Award from the Commission on the Status of Black Males.

As an artist, his work reflects his fascination with desire, untethered beauty, and simplicity. His work is focused on how we see ourselves, the objects around us, and the quiet significance that lies in the details of everyday life.

These works are an exploration of queer intimacy, tension, and light rendered in my signature shades of blue. My painted wood cutouts depict moments of connection and struggle. Some embrace, wrestle, and some remain ambiguous. I like capturing moments that are subtle, but meaningful.
