2025 Kinhouse Exhibnition Catalog Curator Statement
“Kin” referring to a persons sense of connection and “House” referring to a building in which people live, but also a body, a place, an intentional gathering for comfort, coziness, or safe experiences.
As we went through the artwork, we began to notice groupings of work around thematic elements: labor, monstrous forms, merriment, and longing. We have made note of these themes in the catalog and included notes on how we observed that artists were investigating these themes within their artwork.
The artwork in this show is complex and layered. We would not try to categorize the work into neat boxes, rather, we hope to reveal some of the connecting threads that drew us to select this work for the annual catalog.
This show speaks to our collective and individual sense of belonging. It is rich with work reflecting on place, memory, care, legacy and identity. We are honored to share this collection of artwork that gives form to our name, Kinhouse.
